You know how every issue I say is the best one yet? Well, guess what? This one is the best issue yet! Fer realz. We have epic fantasy featuring two children trying to escape poverty and the horrors that come with it, a wedding with a ghostly groom, a fungus that takes over people’s brains, a story about stolen love, gambling, a group of musicians that may seem familliar… at first, and SO much more.

This was the first issue with Alexanda Seidel as poetry editor and she chose to publish poems by Dan Campbell, Patrice Wilson, Sonya Taaffe, Stephanie Smith and J.S. Watts. It was also the unveiling of a whack of changes BD made to the website. Many of them are behind-the-scenes but I’m sure you’ll agree that the site looks phenomenal.

There she is. Beautiful isn’t she? The new issue of Niteblade went live at 12:01 this morning and I think it looks fantastic. We’ve got great stories, poems and book reviews and incredible illustrations. I think this is my favorite cover yet, and it’s coupled with a new way of doing the web-based TOC that makes me incredibly happy.

The table of contents for the September issue has been finalised. What this means is that I am now reading all submissions with an eye to placing them in the March 2010 issue. Wow. Just…wow. The reason for that is the December issue will be a print one (guidelines here).

I loved this book. Not only does Breathers have zombies it’s funny, romantic and has something to say. Mostly it’s just a lot of fun to read and I devoured it.

While at the World Horror Convention, S.G. Browne signed an extra copy of Breathers for me, and I will be giving it away to a lucky Niteblade reader.

However, during the month of June any comments left on the blog will be considered entries into a draw for the signed copy of Breathers. Also, purchasing the .pdf version of the June issue will be considered five entries into the draw. A winner will be chosen on July 1st from all the entries.
